Scheduling your pet’s exam
To schedule your pet’s MRI, we will need an order request from your veterinarian which will provide us with information regarding what body part to scan on your pet. Additionally, current blood work and possible X-rays may be required. This will be done 4-7 days prior to your pet’s exam at your referring veterinarian’s office. Your veterinarian can contact us regarding what tests to run before your pet comes for the MRI so that we can coordinate with you and the veterinarian office. The night before the scan, we require you to withhold feeding your pet for at least 12 hours before the scheduled exam time. Water is allowed up until 4 hours prior to scheduled exam time. Any required medications may be administered in a pill pocket or smallest amount of food the morning of the scan. Please contact us with any questions.
What to expect
Please arrive 15 minutes prior your scheduled appointment time for your paperwork processing and payment.
In order to obtain quality images, your pet will be given a general anesthetic to keep him/her still and placed on a table inside the bore of the magnet. The anesthesiologist and veterinarian technologist will monitor the patient while the MRI technician performs the test. The test can be 30 minutes to an hour, occasionally longer depending on the area of the body being scanned. Once your pet has completed and wakens from anesthesia, they are free to go home. Your pet may be groggy and less active than normal, this is expected from general anesthesia.
You will be sent home with a disk of your pet’s images and a radiology report will be sent to your veterinarian 24-72 hours after the scan.
